The North American Conference on British Studies (NACBS) is a scholarly society dedicated to all aspects of the study of British civilization. The NACBS sponsors a scholarly journal, the Journal of British Studies, online publications, an annual conference, as well as several academic prizes, graduate fellowships, and undergraduate essay contests. While the largest single group of its members teach British history in colleges and universities in the United States and Canada, the NACBS has significant representation among specialists in literature, art history, politics, law, sociology, and economics. Its membership also includes many teachers at universities in countries outside North America, secondary school teachers, and independent scholars.

The North American Conference on British Studies is pleased to announce a new mentorship program. This program pairs advanced graduate students and early-career scholars (who have received their PhDs within the past five years) with established scholars.
The goal of the mentorship program is to draw on the broad experience of the NACBS membership to help graduate students and early-career professionals thrive as British Studies scholars and begin to forge networks beyond their graduate institutions and/or home departments. Mentorship, however, is also meant to be reciprocal: established scholars will also benefit from the knowledge, experience, skills, and networks of those at the beginning of their careers.
For more information on the program and how to get involved, see here.

The official publication of the North American Conference on British Studies (NACBS), the Journal of British Studies, has positioned itself as the critical resource for scholars of British culture from the Middle Ages through the present. Drawing on both established and emerging approaches, JBS presents scholarly articles and books reviews from renowned international authors who share their ideas on British society, politics, law, economics, and the arts. In 2005 (Vol. 44), the journal merged with the NACBS publication Albion, creating one journal for NACBS membership.

The North American Conference of British Studies deplores the systemic racism that shows itself in police brutality and so many other ways, every day, everywhere. As scholars of Britain and its empire, our members are painfully aware of the many past injustices that endure today. As citizens of diverse societies, we commit ourselves, through our scholarship and in our lives, to work constantly to address these injustices and to remove all barriers to free and equal participation in all aspects of our collective life.
